We have all been impacted, to a greater or lesser degree, by the unprecedented global circumstances that unfolded during the first half of 2020, as a result of COVID-19. While none of us can guarantee smooth sailing going forward, we can guarantee that we will be by your side along the way. So take a moment with us now to close your eyes, smell the saltiness of the sea, feel the soft touch of the breeze on your skin, hear the sounds of the ocean and allow yourself to be transported to your happy place – Kridzil!

Here are a few things to remember about your home-away-from-home: we are located in the heart of Margate; we are situated close to numerous swimming beaches and shopping establishments; we are surrounded by an abundance of attractions and activities; and our wonderful team will always go above and beyond to make you (and other guests) feel warm and welcome. VRS Covid-19 Shareholder Notice

We would like to extend our gratitude to every shareholder, as well as to South Africa as a nation, for heeding the call of President Cyril Ramaphosa on the eve of the nation address in relation to the COVID-19 lockdown and restrictions. We, as the Managing Agent of your preferred holiday destination, would like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to navigate this pandemic.

A message from Marjorie Forssman, Managing Director of Vacation Recreational Services:

“Our commitment to providing an environment to create everlasting memories for all our shareholders and guests remains at the forefront of our mission. In light of the current COVID-19 situation, VRS is implementing viable management solutions for your home-away-from-home to ensure the health and safety of you and your families for when you can enjoy your holidays once more. The VRS Team extends their heartfelt empathy for all who have been affected, direct- or indirectly, by this outbreak. Our faith lies firmly that South Africa will emerge from this situation stronger than before and with a heightened appreciation for this beautiful country; let us remain united as a nation.”

Kindly note, in compliance with government regulations and our own policies and procedures that Kridzil will remain closed to the public until it is deemed appropriate, by government, to return to normal operations. That being said, we want you to know that we are missing the sight of all your lovely families arriving in Reception and the happy sounds of your holidays unfolding! We are eagerly awaiting, and we know you are too, the day when we are able to open our gates once more; returning to a time where you may relish every moment at your ‘home-away-from-home’ in a safe and relaxing environment.

DON'T LOSE YOUR WEEK

VRS Options has been made available to our shareholders to deposit the week(s) which have been lost, due to the nationwide lockdown and/or the extended closure of Kridzil in return for tokens to the full value of the respective week.

Please visit VRS Options, bank the stay you can no longer occupy and retrieve your tokens, to be used for a future Resort-stay. A small Exchange Fee is the only payment required to open the possibilities of a multitude of Resorts to you. While we understand this means you might not receive an equivalent stay at Kridzil for a future date, we are sure this gesture, of an alternative holiday for your family, will result in many cherished holiday memories.

Kridzil
– A Legacy worth taking good care of

We are well aware of and sensitive to the impact of the current state of national disaster, but in our role as ‘caretaker’ of your Resort, we understand that our monthly obligations – such as municipal charges, rates and taxes, administration, Resort maintenance – remain payable; and are necessary in order for us to ensure that we are able to welcome you back to your beautiful Resort as soon as possible.

We would like to thank all those shareholders who have continued to pay their levies, especially those who have paid even though they, sadly, lost the use of their week this year, due to the COVID-19 situation.

Animals of the South Coast

Sardines

Between May and July (the coldest months in South Africa), billions of sardines – or more specifically, the Southern African pilchard Sardinops sagax – spawn along our coastline. This is known as the Sardine Run – the biggest marine event on the planet.

This event creates an extensive feeding ground which attracts many predators.

This truly is an experience of a lifetime and one you shouldn’t miss out on. Whether you are a scuba diver, free diver, underwater photographer or simply a nature lover, like us – this annual occurrence will leave you amazed.

Whales

South Africa has to be one of the best destinations in the world for Whale Watching. The best time to experience and watch these graceful giants is between May and December. The season begins late in May, reaching the highest point in late June, with whales still heading north to Mozambique in July/August. August, September and October are the months when the whales are generally heading back South again. The best days for whale watching are clear, windless days – so pack a picnic and your costumes and head on over to the nearest beach for a day filled with swimming, sandcastle building and whale watching.

Here are a few of the whales you might see:
• Humpback Whale
• Southern Right Whale
• Bryde’s Whale
• Minke Whale

Dolphins

Did you know that there are 3 different types of dolphins that can be found in South African waters? - The bottlenose dolphin, the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin and the long-beaked common dolphin.

Bottlenose dolphins enjoy swimming along the shoreline and are most likely to interact with humans.

The humpback dolphin is a shy species and generally stays far away from boats and any other human activity. Their numbers are estimated to be between 1000 to 1200 adults and juveniles in the wild.

Common dolphins are one of the smallest types of dolphins – reaching in length of about 2.4 metres. These creatures can live for 40 years or longer!

Duiker

The Duiker is an adorable small antelope – growing to a height of around 50 cm and weighing between 12 to 25 kg.

Did you know that the females are generally larger and heavier than the males?

These tiny creatures can be found in habitats with sufficient vegetation to allow them to hide.

Another interesting fact is that the Duiker is actually an omnivore – Besides leaves, flowers and fruits, they will also eat insects, frogs, small birds and mammals.

December School Holidays

We enjoy creating the perfect environment for everlasting holiday memories for all of our guests – especially our youngest ones. That is why the sound of crashing waves and laughter which filled the air during the December School Holidays brought us so much joy. We are very excited to create new memories with you this year!

Festive Season

The Festive Season brought with it all of the excitement and wonder of Christmas. All of our guests – young and old – were spoiled with various sweet treats and snacks during check-in. A number of families joined us and had a jolly old, festive time!

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is always a special time for all of us at Kridzil. It is a time where we get to sprinkle our love all around the Resort and be a little over-the-top. This year, guests were spoiled with sweet treats in the Main Bedrooms and handmade hearts as decorations, which adorned their beds.

81st Birthday

We absolutely love it when our guests choose to celebrate their birthdays with us! Mrs. Rall celebrated her 81st birthday with us. As a gift, we sent Mrs. Rall home with a piece of Kridzil; in the form of a fresh plant from our beautiful gardens and a little handmade card.
