The Circle of Life

We're thrilled to introduce two charming fillies born in February and March, bringing happiness and excitement to our stables. While we welcome these new members with open arms, we also pay tribute to one of our cherished horses who peacefully passed away in March, after a long and fulfilling journey. At an impressive 34 years old, our dear friend surpassed the typical lifespan of horses, leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilience. As we celebrate the cycle of life within our equine family, we treasure each moment and remain grateful for the special connections we've forged with our majestic companions.

Thatch Roof Ridges
Thatched roof ridges have been painted with black fire-resistant paint to seal and protect the fibreglass at all units.

Dustbin Box Lids
New wooden dustbin lids were built and installed to replace the old and rotten lids at all units.

Boma Seating
The old plastic chairs in the unit bomas were replaced with a permanent cement seating structure at all units.

Boma Braai Pits & Stands
Two stainless steel braai stands have been installed to replace the old boma braai pits and braai stands in units 17 and 25.

Veranda, Carports, Boma Screen

The pergola slats across all units' verandas, carports, and boma screens will be undergoing replacement, painting, and treatment as per the planned maintenance budget. Units 17, 19 and 31 have been completed. Unit 27 has undergone repairs.

DSTV Decoder Remotes
New decoder remotes were sourced and replaced in all units.

Unit Plugs
All units have been fitted with 2 prong plugs and fittings for ease of use.

Unit Globes
2 Globes in each unit have been replaced with emergency globes.

Fire Extinguishers
All fire extinguishers have been serviced.

Lightning Arrestors
All lightning arrestor poles have been tested and certified.

Swimming Pool
The swimming pool at unit 17 has been renovated. The swimming pool pump has also been replaced.

Bat Management
A bat management plan was introduced to address the presence of bats inside the units to educate our guests.

The staff at Doornkop works together as a unified Team, dedicated to ensuring the happiness of both guests and owners. We're excited about the prospect of creating countless more extraordinary holiday memories with all of you in the years ahead!

Fishing activities recently resumed with the initial stocking taking place in April 2024. Subsequent stockings occurred in May and June 2024, and will continue on a monthly basis.

Recent improvements at the Resort, in conjunction with the LOA, included renovated tennis courts, an updated swimming pool, and rethatched areas. We are happy to report that the staff accommodation upgrades have greatly enhanced overall staff morale.

The Doornkop LOA has started the project to rehab the kids' dams 9 and 10 and dam 2. They are currently being drained and will be empty for a few weeks to dry. The contractor will be onsite towards the end of August 2024 to execute the project. Once complete the LOA will build an aeration system from the outlets of dams 9 and 10 into dam 1. This will help keep the waters cooler in summer in dam 1 for all-year-round good fishing. The aeration project will then extend to the other dams.

If time permits they will also be creating a wetland area before the dam 1 canal water inlet that will be very unique attracting various wildlife species along with removing the silt from the summer rain runoff going into dam 1.
