Latest Update on the CANDI Solar Project
We are excited to provide you with the latest updates on our CANDI Solar project, which aims to enhance energy sustainability for the Ngwenya community. This initiative features a 991kWp solar system and a 1,500kWh Battery Energy Storage (BES) system, managed by Innova Energy Solutions with engineering by Candi Solar, supported by Eksteen & Le Roux Electrical Engineers and Nextera Electrical.
As of November 2024, the solar site installation has progressed significantly, nearing operational readiness.
Key achievements include:
PANEL & INVERTER INSTALLATION:
All 1,656 PV panels and structures, as well as inverters and transformers, are installed, completing the foundation for energy generation.
ELECTRICAL STRINGING
Connection from panels to inverters is complete, and the internal grid is being finalised. The final steps involve connecting transformers and routing cables across remaining structures.
FIBRE OPTIC INSTALLATION:
Fibre optic cables will be added to overhead lines, ensuring redundancy for network communication. The BES system is expected to arrive at port on mid-December 2024, with installation to follow.
Upcoming work includes the completion of stringing and termination and finalising the internal grid and BES system to complete the energy storage setup.
The project is 92% physically complete, with BES installation as the main pending task. Solar alignment is 78% complete, focusing on integrating backup generators and hybrid system communication. Electrical grid installation is at 68%. To mitigate potential risks and avoid extended outages during alignment, the decision has been made to begin commissioning the plant mid-January, after peak season.
This timeline ensures reliability for our clients while finalizing all system components.
This project is a cornerstone of our commitment to sustainable energy, paving the way for a more resilient and efficient future for the Ngwenya community. Thank you for your ongoing support as we move closer to successful completion.

Following reservoir servicing, selected vessels were replaced, and a new distribution manifold was installed to resolve water pressure issues, resulting in a more reliable water system throughout the Resort.
Bat Proofing
A bat-proofing project is underway, with chicken mesh being installed beneath the roof overhangs and patios of affected chalets. Though progress has been slower due to guest occupancy, the project will continue to ensure all units are bat-free.
General Maintenance & Repairs
Broken pipes were repaired or replaced to restore water flow. Standard green garden lights were upgraded to RGB spotlights, enhancing visual appeal and functionality.
